"Say “NO” to what doesn’t serve or benefit you this month. NO-vember. You’ve over-extended yourself enough this year. Say no." — Dr. Kelsei LeAnn
Morning Musings
Every year around this time, I start to think about what I'm thankful for. A few years ago, I started keeping a gratitude journal as a way to maintain perspective and counting the blessings I do have when I start wishing for what someone else has.
Admittedly, I fall off every now and then and, coincidentally enough, these are when the jealousy spirals start happening wherein I compare myself to friends, colleagues and yes, strangers on the Beyoncé's Internet.

And this year, the Scorpio in me felt pretty justified in my jealousy -- I was jealous of colleagues who got promotions, friends who had babies, friends with bigger houses, people who got jobs and deals I thought I deserved. I'm not proud of this, I'm just being honest.
A few newsletters ago, I shared how my therapist suggested I combat my jealousy with gratitude and I confessed that I had not been keeping up with my gratitude journal.

My Ink + Volt planner has monthly challenges and I decided then that my November theme would be writing five things I'm thankful for every day. And then in true millennial fashion, I thought it would be fun to do a 30-Day Gratitude Challenge on Instagram. My goals are threefold:
1) Pay attention. I find that when I'm actively seeking out things to write about in my gratitude journal, I find more things to be grateful about. Law of attraction perhaps?
2) Hold myself accountable. Once you announce something online, you have to do it. That's how this works, right?
3) I’m hoping you join me. I'd love for you to share what you're thankful for and tag me so we can spread more gratitude into the world, one post at a time.

My Latest Obsession

As I've mentioned before, I'm not a *big* podcast person. I have a few faves that I'll listen to regularly, but recently I've been listening to Spotify's horoscope podcast and Chicago Tribune podcast during my morning commute. I like that they're short and sweet, about 3 minutes on average.
This week, I decided to add national coverage to the lineup and downloaded New York Times' The Daily. My girls Anuli and Chasity had recommended the daily news podcast a while ago, but like I've said: it takes me a while to catch on (just ask husbae about trying to convince me to adapt any new technology).
Well, my first episode was The Democratic Showdown in Iowa and I loved how the on-the-ground reporting made me feel like I was in Iowa. Good journalism is hard to come by these days, which is why I've been asking for subscriptions to my favorite news outlets for my birthday and Christmas to support hard working journalists and editors. (Thanks, Erin, for The Atlantic subscription!)
P.s. I'm currently binge-listening to Making Obama in preparation for Making Beyoncé. Any other podcasts I should check out? Hit "reply" and let me know!
