Morning Musings
Thank you, friends, for your grace and understanding last week. Thank you to everyone who called, emailed, DM'ed, texted and otherwise checked up on me -- I appreciate you. And shout-out to all of us for making it to another week. We did it.
Last Thursday, I couldn't sleep. I'd done a pretty good job about safeguarding myself from many of the depressing headlines, but we all have that friend (or family member) in the group chat who can't help but share the latest and not-so-greatest. I was starting to panic and anxious thoughts were getting the best of me.

I've always been a glass half-full kind of girl, so I decided to combat my anxiety with gratitude, joy and laughter. I started a running list of things bringing me joy and I'm sharing them with you in hopes that they made add a silver lining to your day as well:
The Cardi B coronavirus remix (warning: it WILL get stuck in your head)
Penguin videos from the Shedd Aquarium
Rewatching #HOMEcoming with Black Twitter as a family (shout-out to Jasmyn Lawson)
Hosting virtual family game night (and playing Black Card Revoked for two hours straight across four states)
D.J. D-Nice's virtual house party (if you don't know, you better ask somebody)
The #SavageChallenge (can someone PLEASE teach me this dance?)
Toy Story 4
Virtual happy hour, lunch dates and coffee dates with friends and colleagues
Virtual therapy
Cooking with Jeff (okay, watching Jeff cook)
Online gatherings at Soul City Church
Peloton yoga classes (which has extended its free trial to 90 days for new members (no, you don't need the bike)! But if you're interested in purchasing the bike, holla at me for my referral code)
This little girl's socially-distanced birthday party
These Italian mayors losing their sh*t at people for not staying home
If nothing else, this quarantine continues to demonstrate that a) the Internet is undefeated; b) specifically Black people/creatives are undefeated; c) there is more good in the world than bad -- and that's the hope I'm holding onto.
What's bringing you joy this week? Hit "reply" and let me know! Until then, be safe, stay well and I'll see you next week.
Love,
L'Oreal

1. All the Ways the Internet is Pushing Hustle Culture During the Quarantine. As a self-proclaimed workaholic, work is often my drug of choice in times of distress and duress. I'm an Enneagram Type 3 Achiever who feels most at home when I'm doing. But even I recognize that promoting hustle culture in the midst of a global pandemic is NOT what we need right now.
