Happy "Do What Makes You Happy" Day! ☺

Morning Musings
There's no shortage of made-up fun holidays these days, such as National Cupcake Day or National Clean Your Desk Day. I should know, my dad sends me and my sister daily updates about these "holidays."
This past Saturday, I celebrated my own made-up day: Do What Makes You Happy Day. I'm sure such a date already exists; however, this was the first day of the year (first day in a loooong time, if we're being perfectly honest) that I did exactly what I wanted to do -- things that make me happy.
It helped that my husband was out of town on a guys' trip and I was recovering from a cold, so I took the whole rest and relaxation bit to heart. But having the house to myself with no calendar reminders of what I need or have to do next brought me so much joy.
I slept in as late as my heart desired, which turned out to be about 10 a.m., made breakfast, journaled and meditated. Then I actually curled up in the reading chair I so desperately wanted but have hardly used since we moved in to our current home nearly two years ago and read until I couldn't read anymore. Just a girl and her book and her chair by the window. Does it get any better than that?
And then I took a nap, because I could. Then I woke up and I made risotto and drank wine and binge-watched This Is Us (more on that later). It was, in short, a wonderful day and one I plan to indulge in with more frequency.
Too often we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, tending to the demands and desires of our jobs, our families, our friends...everyone but us. When's the last time you put YOU first and did exactly what YOU wanted to do?
Be sure to make time for your own Do What Makes You Happy Day. You'll thank yourself later.

My Latest Obsession

During my aforementioned "Do What Makes You Happy Day," I started binge-watching NBC's hit show This Is Us. Yes, I know I'm tardy to the party, but better late than never, right? I'm not sure if I was in my feelings, but the pilot episode had me crying ALL the tears. And the Thanksgiving episode? I can't even! If you have a complicated family (don't we all?) and/or a heart, you simply must check out this show. Also, Sterling K. Brown is basically my husband -- a charming combo of #BlackAndNerdy.
