Be the change you wish to see in the world ✨

Morning Musings
Every so often (okay, so more like every other night) before going to bed, I tell Jeff how I want to change the world, or at least my small corner of it. And every now and then (and again), my college roomie/bridesmaid/soul sister Dayna reminds me that I'm already doing just that.
As an overly ambitious Type-A high-achieving perfectionist, I don't always take the time to sit back and reflect on what I've done so far. I'm constantly looking forward to the Next Big Thing...whether it's the next promotion, the next job, the next whatever. I have a difficult time focusing on the present because I'm obsessed with the future and I want to impact as many women and girls as humanly possible.

I also have a tendency to tie my success and, thus, my self-worth, to my accomplishments. So when I'm seemingly overlooked for this list, that list or the other, I feel like a failure. I know, I know, that's why I'm in therapy...despite preaching about the pitfalls of imposter syndrome and social media comparison, I don't often follow my own advice. Hey, I'm human, too!
But this week, I received a warm and fuzzy reminder about why I do what I do. In an interview with NBCBLK, one of my favorite Girl Scouts, Eva Lewis, named me as one of her inspirations. When I tell y'all I was getting teary-eyed at my desk...
Even though I've only know Eva for two years, she's left a mark on me that will certainly last a lifetime because the truth is, she's inspired me just as much (perhaps even more) than I've inspired her. The point is, you don't have to wait until you have a certain title, salary, award, etc. to make a difference.
In the wise words of Arthur Ashe, "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can." And who knows? Maybe it'll come back to you one day.

Jeff and I have been married for two-and-a-half years, which means we get our fair share of "when are you having kids?" inquiries.

In case anyone asks, I'm in my "let me hold your baby and give it back" phase. I talk more about why I don't want to have kids right now in my latest for HelloGiggles.

Unpopular Opinion Alert: I wasn't really a fan of the movie Dear White People. As a POC who attended a PWI (that's Person of Color and Predominantly White Institution for the uninitiated), I felt as though the movie was a bit lackluster. But that's all changed with the new Netflix series of the same name. Even though the show is called Dear White People, it's really a love letter to young Black people trying to survive and thrive as Black faces in mostly White spaces. It's LIT AF, as the kids would say.
