💃 Beyoncé Wasn't Built in a Day 💃

Here's how I know therapy is working for me ...
Nearly nine months ago, I was on the brink of a major meltdown. I'd just attended a book reading featuring two of my favorite bloggers-turned-bestselling authors and I felt a deep-seated envy unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. It was the moment I knew I needed therapy and, as I wrote for HelloGiggles, I haven't looked back since.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I attended an event featuring Roxane Gay and, instead of the resentment I previously felt toward the authors, I now felt inspired. Instead of throwing a one-woman pity-party and wondering why I'd never make it to where they are, I knew within my heart that with my passion, work ethic and perseverance that I, too, could someday become a New York Times best-selling author, sell out venues and have a line of people waiting for me to sign their book. It could very well happen.
I left the event with a newfound commitment to writing my future book ... bestsellers don't happen overnight. After all, as Matt Bellassai tweeted, "you have to get through your Destiny's Child before you get to your Beyoncé." Despite what Insta-famous pseudo-celebs and so-called influencers will have you believe, there are no shortcuts to success. So let's buckle down and do the damn work, shall we?

Love,
L'Oreal

My Latest Obsession

As a former journalist and reformed goody two-shoes, I can't help but be obsessed with The Good Girls Revolt, the true story of how a group of women at Newsweek banded together, sued their bosses on the basis of gender discrimination AND WON! Now, given the era, most of these women were White; however, the lawyer who brought their case to the forefront was a BLACK woman, Eleanor Holmes Norton, who also happened to be pregnant at the time of the suit. Talk about badass! I know the book was made into a show on Amazon, but I really need this book to be made into a movie.
