Someone needs to hear your story 💬

Morning Musings
Once again, I had an entirely different newsletter mentally mapped out for the week then I read a story that stirred my soul and now I must share it with you.Â
A bit of background: about a month ago a friend told me that she'd had an abortion. And then earlier this week another friend wrote about her abortion story in this post for Medium.
Her story powerfully demonstrates there is strength in vulnerability. But moreover, it shows that someone, somewhere needs to hear your story. As Melissa, the author, so simply and eloquently wrote on Facebook, "I wrote something. Hope this helps someone else."
Yes, it really is that simple. And yet so complicated at the same time.
To let down the walls, to speak our truths, and share our stories in an era that's obsessed with filters, Photoshops and "fake news" is not only an act of bravery, but an act of resistance, especially coming from women of color.Â
Thank you, Melissa, for being so honest, so open, and so transparent. Thank you for sharing your story and touching others with your heart and your words.
Love,

Remember when I told y'all about the incredible time I had at Galvanize Chicago?

Well, I wrote all about it in my latest for HelloGiggles. Check it out and prepared to be inspired by all the badass women in attendance and, dare I say, galvanized.

Yes, yes, I know this section has become a mini book club lately, but I can't help it. When I fall in love with a good read, I want the world (and you, my loyal peeps) to know. I became a fan of Roxane Gay when I first stumbled upon Bad Feminist and I've been hooked ever since. Last month, I attended Roxane's reading of Hunger, a memoir of her body, and fell even more in love with her writing. Like seriously, I wanted to take a personal day to sit alone and devour her words -- it's THAT good.
