Guard your energy ✨

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice you have chosen the side of the oppressor." —Desmond Tutu
Morning Musings
Once again, I had an entirely different letter in mind. Once again, #NotMyPresident has gone off and said/done/tweeted some racist stupid shit. So here we are. And once again, I don't have the words. In fact, I want to vomit. And crawl into a ball. And cry.
No, I am not okay. And if you ask my fellow POC or anyone of any marginalized group, I'd dare to say that many of them feel the same way.
As a writer, I feel a certain responsibility to use my voice and my platform to speak up against injustices. So many people look to writers to put into words what they cannot and ... I simply don't have the words. In this way, I may have let you down and for that, I'm sorry.
I'm fighting the good fight, but it is fucking exhausting.
But what I've learned, after six months of therapy, is that it is necessary to guard your energy. Unplug. Unwind. Go to that yoga class. Meet your friend for brunch. Or don't. Joy is a form of resistance, but you know what you need best. Take your time. Cry it out. Scream if you want to. You do you. After all, you can't pour from an empty cup. Just know that you're not alone.
We'll be here when you get back.
Love,
L'Oreal

My Latest Obsession

On Sunday I went to rooftop yoga followed by all-you-can-eat brunch and unlimited mimosas (best part: it was set to trap music, YASSS!). It was everything I didn't know I needed to temporarily clear my mind of all the bullshit going on right now. Check out R&B Yoga to get your groove (and your brunch) on. #NamaSlay
