Black love is a revolutionary act 💕

Morning Musings
Once again I had another newsletter in mind and then I watched the Black Love docuseries on OWN last night and now I'm all in my feelings. Yes, I've heard about Black love being a revolutionary act before, but it wasn't really until this year (when so much about my very existence as a free Black woman has been under attack) that I gave the phrase a serious second thought.
Reginald Cunningham said it best in this HuffPo story:
"Black love is radical. It is innovative. Because everything in history says it shouldn’t be here, it is political. Black love is revolutionary because black love shouldn’t exist. And yet, it persists."

I never really thought about my marriage to a Black man as revolutionary. If we're being entirely honest, there are many people (including myself) who didn't think I'd be married to a Black man, period.
It's not that I intentionally dated outside of my race, but the men that I was attracted to just so happened to not be Black ... that and the facts that I went to a primarily white college, lived in an all-white neighborhood and would later work with exactly zero Black men in my first couple of jobs out of college, you get the idea.
But when I look at my beautiful Black husband, I see a reflection of myself. I see my past, my present and my future -- a future filled with love, hope and beautiful Black babies (not anytime soon, for the record). And if that is so seemingly wrong, then I don't want to be right.
Love,
L'Oreal
P.s.: This has nothing to do with Black love, BUT I'm offering FREE resume review to the first FIVE people who respond to this week's newsletter! Ready, set, go!

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know I have a slight #GirlCrush on Elayne Fluker, host of the Support is Sexy podcast. Actually, #GirlCrush doesn't do it justice. After interviewing Elayne for HerAgenda earlier this year, I unofficially adopted her as my mentor-in-my-head.Â
So I was beyond thrilled (and slightly nervous) to have her interview me for her podcast. Check out my episode here and be sure to let me know what you think!

p.s. If you missed my #SideHustle workshop at 1871 Chicago, check out this recap from one of the attendees, Mary K.!
Helping Those Impacted by Hurricane Harvey
Instead of sharing my favorite links this week, I'd like us all to be the change we want to see in the world and help the people who've been impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey this weekend.

My Latest Obsession

I'm a sucker for awards shows and even more so for heartfelt speeches, such as Pink's brilliant acceptance speech in which she addressed her daughter and taught us all a thing or two about inner beauty and self-love. Check out the video and transcript here. I'll be here wiping my eyes...
