I'm rooting for everybody Black 💁

"The things that make us different, those are our superpowers — every day when you walk out the door and put on your imaginary cape and go out there and conquer the world because the world would not be as beautiful as it is if we weren't in it." — Lena Waithe
Morning Musings
Ask every Black person who they're rooting for during any given awards show and they're likely to say exactly what Issa Rae said during the red carpet at this Sunday's Emmys.

But seriously. If it's not the BET Awards, it's a given that I'm rooting for every person with a drop of melanin. Why? Well, chances are I don't know who half the nominees are anyway, but moreover, people of color are so often overlooked and underrepresented at these events and in the shows, movies, etc. featured so it's kind of a no-brainer.
The cards are already stacked against us in so many ways, we're most likely to be the underdog in whatever category it is, so yes. I am rooting for Black people to win EVERY DAMN THANG.
And no, that doesn't make me racist, so don't even try it. This is about celebrating Black Excellence in all its various forms in an industry and a world that is constantly calling for us to dim our shine lest we be called "too loud," "too opinionated," "too ghetto," "too Black."
This is for us.

I had the privilege of attending Solange's talk at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago last week. And, I have to say, she did not disappoint.

From talking about the importance of self-care and how her experience as a Black woman influences her work, Solange was dropping gems right and left. Read more in my latest for HelloGiggles.

My Latest Obsession

So I tried to be a responsible adult and wait until pay day to get my hands on Rihanna's new cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty, but alas, the earlier bird gets the worm. Or, in this case, the 420 Pro Fil'tr foundation that I perfectly matched with and so desperately need. Seriously. Every Black girl blogger I know is ob-sessed with this line and rightfully so.
Finally, there's makeup FOR us BY us (well, Rihanna, but you know what I mean). Literally every woman of color at Sephora was swarmed around the Fenty Beauty counter. With 40 shades, there's legit a foundation for everyone. Do you know what it's like to have your face flawlessly match your neck?! It's a beautiful, beautiful thing.
