Morning Musings
Last Wednesday I experienced what I'm pretty sure was my first anxiety attack. It began with a tightness in the middle of my chest -- like someone had punched me in the sternum -- and some abdominal pain during a morning meeting. I attributed it to the venti iced coffee I'd had earlier, but it didn't go away.
So, like any normal human being, I googled "tightness in chest" and convinced myself I was maybe having a heart attack or a blood clot had traveled to my lungs (thanks a lot, WebMD). Then common sense took over and I texted my BFF, who happens to be a nurse. She attributed the discomfort to gas and nerves, but told me to get checked out if it became worse.
It was all fine and dandy through the rest of the workday, my cardio kickboxing class and dinner. But when I tried to sit up after lying on the sofa, it felt like someone was stepping on my chest. And, even though she's based on the West Coast, my BFF forced me to go to the ER. Better safe than sorry.
Apparently it goes down in the ER around midnight in Chicago, but, because of said chest pains, I was seen rather quickly. The nurses and doctors took my blood pressure, performed an EKG and a chest X-ray, as well as blood work -- everything came back normal, thank God.
Although I wasn't thrilled about spending literally half of the bonus I'd just received that afternoon on the ER copay, the peace of mind was priceless. And, interestingly enough, the chest pain shortly disappeared after the important meeting I had Thursday morning. Coincidence? I think not.
I decided to take a sick day for the sake of my mental and physical healthy. As an ambitious go-getter, I'm often guilty of taking on too much, truly believing I can do everything and killing myself to finish "one more thing." Spoiler alert: no job, opportunity or to-do list is worth your health. Take a break when you need to -- the work will be there when you get back, I promise. Yes, you can do anything, but you can't do everything.

You know how some people fangirl over celebs? I'm that way with bloggers and writers (okay, and Beyoncé, because who doesn't love Bey ... don't answer that if you disagree). When I first stumbled upon Samantha Irby's blog, bitches gotta eat, I was immediately obsessed. And when I read her debut book, Meaty, I fell even more in love. Now that I've read her latest, We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. I can hardly wait to digest her newest book slated for fall 2018. If you want to literally LOL until you cry, this book is for you.
P.s. I have met Irby IRL and she is ah-mazing!
