Please don't kill my vibe 🙏

#WednesdayWisdom
"I think the biggest part of being a girl boss in the office, at home, or anywhere you go is just knowing your value." —Meghan Markle
Morning Musings
Since I started contributing to HelloGiggles last year, I've written about my fair share of timely topics: #NastyWomen, mental health and body positivity, just to name a few.
But nothing seems to have provoked the ire of middle America quite like my essay about Meghan Markle last week. With more than 100 comments and counting on HelloGiggles' Facebook post promoting the story, people certainly had something to say.
"She is not a black woman, she's American."
Newsflash, Susan: it is, in fact, possible to be both a Black woman AND American. I do it every day.
Another gem: "OMG, can’t believe such a special event for a couple was turned into a skin color or ethnic thing crap."

Oh and we can't forget this classic: "I'd rather a divorcee than a black woman."

Of course, there were those who suggested that the author was racist, uneducated and so forth and so on. In fact, there was someone on Twitter who said "only Black women with self-esteem invest in the marriage of a white-looking biracial woman, who's socially white, to a white ginger prince. #thesunkenplace."
Wow. Now, 25-year-old L'Oreal would have clapped back and tried to defend myself. But 30-year-old L'Oreal knows better than to feed the trolls -- it's not worth the time or energy. It's not like they know me personally, so I'm going to remain unbothered.
Going into 2018, I'm making a concerted effort to protect my peace always, in all ways. Because no matter what I do or say (or, in this case, write), there will always be naysayers. But they won't kill my vibe.
Best,
L'Oreal
P.S. I'm also excited to share that I launched my brand spanking new website last weekend. Visit ltinthecity.com and let me know what you think!

Special shoutout to my work husband, Pedro Vega Jr. of Wasena Creative, for working his design magic.

Last Friday, Dec. 1, marked 62 years since my shero and Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and ignited a movement. In my latest for HelloGiggles, I wrote about how she was the first woman to teach me about resistance.

Confession: I'm a sucker for cornrows and manicured toes. Okay, just kidding. But what I am a sucker for is self-care and girl-powered newsletters. So when I heard that Girls' Night In, a weekly newsletter for "women who'd rather stayed in," was adding Take Care Journals to their shop, I jumped for joy. The journal includes daily prompts asking what you did for yourself and what you did for others; 20-self care ideas; and 120 dot-grid pages to let your creativity flow. Want your own copy?
