Morning Musings
Do you know what today is? It's our anniversary! Okay, technically I launched this newsletter on Jan. 4, 2016, but seeing as how that falls on a Thursday this year, we're celebrating today.
For those of you who have been rocking with me since the beginning, thank you so much for your support. For those who of you who've recently joined us, welcome to the party ... I'm so glad you're here!

I don't know about y'all, but 2017 was certainly a year of growth for me. As I mentioned in last week's newsletter, I traveled quite a bit (including by myself for the first time ever) and I received a promotion at work. In many ways, 2017 was about laying the foundation for the success I'm sure is to come this year -- starting with my brand new job.
As of yesterday, yours truly is the new director of communications for OneGoal, a college access and success organization. I'm SO excited to start this next chapter of my career, even if I am a bit intimidated about being head of communications for a national nonprofit. Eek!

And you better believe I'm just getting started. I'm a big fan of speaking goals into existence and putting positive vibes into the universe, so I'm sharing my top three goals for 2018:
1) Complete my book proposal
2) Speak at a conference
3) Attend a yoga retreat specifically for women of color

And all of my goals are centered around one word: PEACE. Last year, a coworker of mine shared her habit of setting her intentions each year with one word, or theme. After celebrating my 30th birthday in Santa Fe, I've decided to make "peace" my word for 2018. I wanted to preserve and prolong the serenity that surrounded me on that trip.
Since then, I've been getting rid of that which no longer serves me in an effort to "vibrate higher daily," as Lalah Deliah says. If something (or someone) doesn't align with my vibes or contribute to my peace, then I'm chucking the deuces. Because ain't nobody got time for drama or b.s. in 2018. #Namaste
Love,
L'Oreal
P.s. Many thanks to my husband, Jeff, for proofreading every newsletter before I hit "send." You're the real MVP!

If there's anything that's true about me, it's that I'm a creature of habit. There's just something almost sacred about rituals, which is why I was more than happy to share my morning routine with well, My Morning Routine. Learn more about my daily habits here.
P.s. My favorite Girl Scout (yes, I'm allowed to have favorites) recently gave a TEDx Talk that will knock your socks off (check it out below)! She's also hosting a fundraiser for her nonprofit, The I Project, next Saturday here in Chicago. Learn more here.

As I've mentioned before, my sister-in-law is the GOAT of gift-giving and she did NOT disappoint this Christmas. While I love ALL of my gifts, Little Leaders in Black History, the debut book by Vashti Harrison, is my absolute favorite. I mean, did you see the cover?! Talk about love at first sight. This book, complete with illustrations and profiles of 40 Black women who helped shape history, is the perfect gift for every leader -- little and grown -- in your life and is sure to be a collector's item someday.
