The heart wants what it wants 💕

Morning Musings
Late last year, while recovering from surgery, I read a column by Charreah Jackson, a senior editor at Essence magazine and girlfriend in my head. In the column, she shared a link to a quiz she'd created to reveal what your heart wants.
Never one to turn down a quiz, I indulged and the results solidified what I already knew: what my heart more desires is peace. As I mentioned , peace is my word, or theme, for 2018.
It's why I've become more discerning about how, where and with whom I spend my time and energy. So long, energy vampires. Sayonara, bad vibes. Peace out, people-pleasing.

This week's reading in Fifty Feminist Mantras opened with, "How often do you stop and ask yourself what your heart needs?" And so now I propose the same question to you: What does your heart most want? What is your deepest desire? And what are you doing to incorporate more of it into your daily life?

My Latest Obsession

This week's obsession comes via recommendation from one of my loyal subscribers and fellow book enthusiast, Heather C. When she first told me about When Dimple Met Rishi last summer, I added it to my Goodreads list and recently borrowed it from my local library. Long story short: I'm in love. With the characters. With the writing. EVERYTHING! At its core, WDMR is a teen love story (hey, it's YA, what were you expecting?), but Dimple, the main protagonist, is feminist AF in an otherwise traditional Indian family. Needless to say, I want (no, need) for this book to hit the big screen ASAP.
