Get yourself an accountabili-buddy 👭

Morning Musings
Okay, friends, we’re about halfway into the first month of the New Year … how are those resolutions coming along? I believe there’s something to be said about writing down your intentions on paper; speaking them into the universe; and then roping in a friend or two to hold you accountable.
After noticing tweets that both I and another blogger had posted about improving our self-promotion skills, a mutual blogger friend reached out to give us some tips and we made a decision to hold each other accountable to our goals every month.
It’s been several months now and we’re still going strong. I’d led another accountability group years ago, but it fizzled out as members moved away, started families, new jobs and/or grad school. But, for some reason, this latest iteration has stuck.
A few keys to success in my opinion are that:
A) It’s a small group (there’s just the three of us)
B) We trust each other. We’re all equally invested in each other’s goals and genuinely want the other to succeed. You know that Apple Music commercial with Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson dancing around in the living room? That’s us, but on the phone.

C) We have a standing date every third Sunday. It’s in my calendar, so no excuses.
D) They actually hold me accountable. When I mentioned that I’d been procrastinating on having a serious conversation with another friend, my accountabili-buddies as I call them texted me to make sure I’d done the deed. And they weren’t taking no for an answer.
That monthly kick in the butt is exactly what I need to keep moving forward toward my goals. And knowing I have the support and encouragement of two friends who “get it” makes it all the better. Thank you, Anuli and Chasity, for constantly pushing me to be better and dream bigger.
Love,
L’Oreal

My Latest Obsession

So in all honesty, I’ve been low-key obsessed with “Finesse” by Bruno Mars since he dropped the 24K Magic dropped back in 2016. But when I heard the remix featuring Cardi B and saw the multicolored ‘90s-inspired video that doubled as an homage to “In Living Color,” I fell even more in love. Fun fact: I wanted to be a Fly Girl back in the day, but alas, that never came true. Despite have this album on repeat all summer, I haven’t been able to get this song out of my head and can’t wait to see them perform it live at the Grammys later this month.
