Morning Musings
This time last week I'd come down with an unexpected cold (although really, who expects to get sick?) and spent a good 15 minutes debating whether I should take a sick day or simply work from home. I'd even googled it to see what other people would recommend even though my husband made it loud and clear that I should just take the sick day.
Interestingly enough, this came a week after my on-boarding session with HR, in which we discussed "sustainable success" and actually taking sick days when we're sick. But still, I was new ... I should push through.

I always push through, especially when I have no business doing so. Blame my work ethic. Blame my dad for working 30-plus years without taking a sick day. Either way, I'm 30 years old and taking a sick day STILL doesn't come naturally to me. Plus, the ability to work from home has blurred the line between "staying at home because I don't want to contaminate anyone" and "I really need to rest."
In the end, I decided to take an actual sick day and NOT work from home. I sent a quick text to my manager, set up my out-of-office reply, took some NyQuil and slept until 2:30 in the afternoon. And you know what? The next day I felt rested, (mostly) recharged and ready to take on the world.
Moral of the story: listen to your body and take the damn sick day.
