Morning Musings
Black women are dope AF ... and I'm not just saying that because I am one. Okay, maybe I am a bit biased. But after 20+ years of internalized self-hate, I'm allowed to be ...

Anyway, back to what I was saying: I love Black women. And, in honor of Black History Month, I want to share some of my favorite Black women writers whom you may or may not know. This week, I'm spotlighting Morgan Jerkins, whose debut essay collection, This Will Be My Undoing: Living at the Intersection of Black, Female, and Feminist in (White) America, was published last week.
I've been following Morgan for some time on Twitter and I CAN'T WAIT to get my hands on her book (I have about four other books in the queue ... #BookwormProblems). But, in the meantime, you can enjoy an excerpt here and her interview with THE Roxane Gay here.Â
And tune in next week for some more Black woman writer love.

In my first ever blog post for the new gig, I'm sharing my racial identity journey, inspired by Beverly Daniel Tatum's Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? If you haven't read this book yet, stop what you're doing and order a copy now.Â

My Latest Obsession

Last year, I began a search for The Perfect Nude. After spending more time than I care to admit in Sephora to no avail, my sister-in-law and another friend recommending Mented Cosmetics, a company specializing in nude lipsticks and lip glosses for Black women by Black women.
While I ended up sticking to my trusted MAC Chestnut lip liner and Viva Glam VI for my perfect nude, I was impressed by Mented's Gloss for Grown Ups Collection. Send Nudes is my go-to when I want a low-key, yet polished natural look. Use this link for 15% off your first purchase (and there's free shipping now until Feb. 12). Â
Oh yeah, I'll also be sharing some of my fave Black woman-owned business this month as well. Get ready to #BuyBlack!
