Morning Musings
Happy Valentine's Day, lovelies! As sappy as it sounds, Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. Why? To put it quite simply, I love love. And not just romantic love. I love celebrating all of the relationships that are important to me -- my family, my friends and, now, my husband.
But what I've also learned throughout the years is that the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. In the infamous words of RuPaul, "If you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?"

It's one of the reasons I'm so obsessed with writer Alex Elle's self-love affirmations. In a recent post for Herbivore Botanicals, the author of Neon Soul talks about why self-love is so important (and even includes a self-love recipe specifically for Valentine's Day).
I hope however you spend today, you spend some time loving yourself -- whether it's a much overdue mani/pedi; some quality alone time reading a good book; or a simple bubble bath complete with some bubbly.
You deserve the best. You deserve to be loved. You deserve to love yourself. Celebrate accordingly.

Love,

If you follow me on social media, then you know I have a love/neutral relationship with web series. I love writing about the badass women of color behind them (as evident in my articles featuring the creators of Brown Girls and MENACE), but I rarely end up watching them. Hey, I have a pretty full DVR as it is!

But I think I'll have to make an exception for Unfair & Ugly, a web series about a Muslim American family (think Arrested Development meets Master of None). Check out my interview with the creators, Yumna and Nida, in my latest for HelloGiggles.

My Latest Obsession

As promised, this month I've featuring Black women entrepreneurs I love and this week's obsession is courtesy of Love Peridot. Now, I could put pretty much list every item in her shop as my favorite.
But I'm especially in love with the Sideways Initial Necklace (pictured here), which I had to have after seeing Jessica Lauren's of No Real Jewelry. Fun fact: Cher, the owner of Love Peridot, introduced Jessica to Soul City Church and Jessica, in turn, introduced me. The Lord works in mysterious ways!
Want your own initial necklace? Or any of the other sweet lifestyle accessories from Love Peridot? Use the promo code LTINTHECITY for 15% off! Happy shopping!! #BuyBlack
