"Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim ... It will be a little messy, but embrace the mess. It will be complicated, but rejoice in the complications. It will not be anything like what you think it will be, but surprises are good for you." — Nora Ephron
Morning Musings
It’s performance review time here at the new gig and, in an effort to help everyone proudly showcase their wins, we did an exercise during our Black affinity group meeting on Monday where we shared our triumphs for the year.
Having only recently reached my 90-day milestone, I thought there wasn’t much I’d have to contribute. But once I started making a list (yes, an actual list on paper) I realized I’d accomplished quite a lot in my short time with the organization.
To recap:
I landed a first-person essay from one of our students in Teen Vogue
I secured a media sponsorship with a local women’s magazine for our upcoming gala fundraiser
I developed an org-wide PR strategy, complete with protocol, a pitch calendar and much more
I pitched TEDxChicago on behalf of our CEO
I worked with our senior leadership team to draft statements on external issues, such as DACA, transgender bathrooms, and March for Our Lives
Yea, I'm pretty much a badass. *brushes shoulder off*
Like Marianne Williamson said, "Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you."

So this week (and every other week, for that matter), I encourage you to "say it with your chest." Because you're a badass, too. #respect

My Latest Obsession

I've told y'all plenty of times why my girl Anuli, creator of The Intersection Weekly, is the G.O.A.T. If you need further convincing, please see Exhibit A (above). I was mulling over what I wanted my 30-day challenge for the month of April to be when lo and behold, the #intersectionwklyjournal challenge fell out of the sky like a gift from heaven. It's been 11 days and I'm going strong. Join in on the fun here and sign up for Anuli's weekly newsletter (probably my favorite of all time) here.
