"What can I share with the younger generation of Black women writers, writers in general? What can they learn from my experience? I can tell them not to be afraid to feel and not to be afraid to write about it. Even if you are afraid, do it anyway." —Audre Lorde
Morning Musings
Y'all, I don't understand how people travel all the time for work. I was in four states last week (five if you count landing in Kentucky for a girls' trip in Cincinnati) and ya girl is EXHAUSTED.
I know better than this. I know that I need time to decompress and recuperate after being on the road (er, on the plane?). But yet, I decide to push through and power through because I low-key believe that I'm superhuman.
Spoiler alert: I'm not. And neither are you.

We do ourselves a great disservice when we don't listen to our bodies' needs. My body has been craving a break and chose to ignore all the warning signs.
Well, now I write this to you with a throbbing head, stuffy nose and sore throat. Every time I get sick, I feel like it's God's way of telling me to "sit down and be humble."
The emails will still be there. The work will eventually get done. The to-do list can't wait. But if you don't take care of yourself, well ... nothing else matters.
For most of us (doctors, military and emergency personnel notwithstanding), our jobs aren't a matter of life or death. So you can afford to take a timeout. Your body will thank you.
Now, if anyone needs me, I'll be logging off ...
Love,
L'Oreal

My Latest Obsession

I spent this past weekend in Cincinnati kicking it with my Sister Circle doing the usual -- chilling, eating and shopping. During an excursion to Ulta, one of my friends, Cecilia, blessed me with an impromptu makeover and introduced me to Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil.
I'd just run out of my go-to (IT Cosmetics BROW POWER Super Skinny) and was tired of buying it every single month. Here's hoping the Benefit pencil lasts longer (you don't need to use as much because it goes on pretty thick).
AND, I know I'm about five years late on this one, but my homegirl also taught me the under-the-brow concealer trick to clean up your brows and have Instagram-worthy eyebrows. I have seen the light!
