Morning Musings
Five years ago this summer, I moved from Baltimore to Chicago with a hope and a dream. The hope was that my then long-distance would propose. And a dream to become editor-in-chief of a magazine.
Only one of those has come true ... so far. (Hi, Jeff)
Around the same time, I changed my Instagram handle from @lorealkt to @LTintheCity. A former co-worker had joked that my new big city life would be like "Sex and the City." Thus, a blog and a brand were born.

I'd been blogging for a few years before making the switch to LT in the City. Fun fact: My first blog (on Blogspot, no less) was called Peace, Love & Purple Shoes. Don't judge me.
But I hadn't quite found my niche -- ambitious millennial women --until moving to Chicago. So now, five years later, I'm celebrating: both my blogaversary and my Chicagoversary.
And I want you to join me ... on Saturday, July 14 at Paris 312 in Lincoln Park.Â
It's an all women-produced event from the desserts (I mean, have you tried a Bon Vivants cake? They're to die for!) and a swag bag featuring goodies from local women-owned businesses.

Plus, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Polished Pebbles, a mentoring program for Black girls 7-17 here in Chicago (also the first organization I volunteered with once I moved here).
Get your tickets here (and use promo code LTINTHECITY for $5 off). Hope to see you there!
Love,

Because y'all loved last week's salary post so much, this week I decided to share the top three lessons I learned from my career coach (aka the woman who helped me land that $30,000 salary increase).

Okay, let's try this one again (for real this time). If you're in the Chicago area, come check me out on May 29 at Ignite Chicago. Use the promo code SPEAKERFRIEND for 15 percent off your ticket.

My Latest Obsession

I've been on a nonfiction/self-help/memoir kick for a while, so I was excited when my coworker recommended Eleanor & Park as I so desperately needed a more lighthearted read to give my brain a rest.
I devoured it in about one weekend. Not since have I geeked out over a YA novel so hard. Author Rainbow Rowell perfectly captures what it's like to be awkward, young and in love (at least what I imagine it to be, I didn't have a boyfriend until I was in college. #LateBloomer).
