"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." — Brené Brown
Morning Musings
Last night I did a thing that was completely and totally outside of my comfort zone -- I spoke at Ignite Chicago. The concept of Ignite is slightly terrifying in and of itself: five minutes to share an idea you're passionate about. You have to create 20 slides and oh, by the way, they automatically advance every 15 seconds.
For someone like me with an innate fear of PowerPoint, this was extremely intimidating ... so I knew I had to face my fear head on and do it.
It was hard. My anxiety leading up to the event had me ALL in my feels: "I can't do this." "Who am I to think I can do this?" "Why would anyone ever want to listen to me and what I have to say?"

Impostor syndrome was rearing its ugly head yet again, which is ironic because that's what my talk was about. That's what my book proposal is about, for crying out loud!
So who am I to give this talk about impostor syndrome when it's something I grapple with on a regular basis? Actually, that's exactly why I'm perfectly equipped to tell this story and write this book -- because I'm right there in the struggle with you!
It's been said that "life begins at the end of your comfort zone." After all, if you do the same thing you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten. And, quite frankly, I'm not content with settling for what I've gotten thus far.
So I will continue to push myself outside of my comfort zone; challenge myself to try new things; and extend myself grace when I don't get it right the first time (or the second time, or the third time).
Because, at the end of the day, I know that I'm a badass boss ... and so are you. So trust your skills, trust your talent, trust your dopeness.
Love,
L'Oreal
P.s. If you want to catch highlights from last night, be sure to check out my Instagram story and follow me for more behind-the-scenes action.
P.p.s. Shout-out to my husband, Jeff, and my BFF Marissa, for showing up to support me last night and for all of their help in the prep work beforehand ... couldn't have done it without y'all!
IRL
Visiting Chicago this summer? Here's where you can find me in the flesh:
July 11: Life of Yes Storytelling Showcase! By now, y'all should know how much I love Saya Hillman, founder of Mac & Cheese Productions/the fantabulous woman who immaculately cleans my apartment (and prepped me for my Ignite Chicago presentation). So I'm beyond honored to be presenting during her showcase in July.
July 14: My Blogaversary Party! Join me for an afternoon of cocktails, cupcakes and conversation all while supporting a great cause and local women-owned businesses. Use the promo code LTINTHECITY to save $5. See you there!

My Latest Obsession

Now y'all know I wouldn't recommend something I've never personally used or don't support. So please believe me when I tell you Soma's Vanishing Edge Panties are the TRUTH!
Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the campaign ... no VPL (visible panty lines) without wearing a thong?! Let me found out ... and I did. And I'm in love.
Seriously, I checked out my backside every time I went to the restroom last week and could barely believe my eyes. And did I mention they're super comfy? My girlfriends turned me on to Soma's bras last year and now I'm obsessed with their whole intimates line. Treat yourself (and your booty) to these undies!
(And no, I'm not getting paid for this (although holla at me, Soma, if you're about that #SponsoredPost life), I just LOVE these like whoa!)
