Morning Musings
What's the word or phrase for yoga high? I know runner's high exists, but what do we yogis get? I'm asking for a friend. That friend is me.
Nearly two weeks later, I'm still feeling elated after attending the Starshine and Clay Yoga Retreat.

During our first morning session, Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts asked us to list five to seven things that bring us joy, and then the follow-up question: "What's taking up space?" As in, what can you do or change to make more room for those things.
Immediately, I got to writing:
spending quality time with my loved ones
writing and reading
dancing and yoga
cupcakes
Beyoncé
sunrises and sunsets
flowers from the farmers market by our house
being in/near the water
...did I mention Beyoncé?
bunnies
brunch (and bottomless mimosas)
pumpkin spice lattes (yes, I'm basic AF, don't judge me)
I could go on. One of the women I'd carpooled with to the retreat, however, had a harder time writing out her list. "After my family and my daughter, I wasn't sure what else to put."
Damn. And she wasn't the only one. Other women shared that they also struggled to come up with a list. I imagine the same might be true for some of you. And that's okay.
In today's world, joy is an act of resistance. So I encourage you to take some time to reflect on five to seven things that bring you joy. If you'd like, you can share them with me via email or Twitter, I'd love to here from you!
As Dr. Roberts reminded us during our session, "joy is your birthright and requires tending to. You are worthy of joy."
Love,
L'Oreal

During my first workshop at 1871 about balancing your full-time job and your side-hustle, I met Mary Kesinger, an inspiring young woman who was all about running your world. A little while later, I was both humbled and honored when she asked me to edit her book and I'm so excited to be featured on her blog.

My Latest Obsession

I recently shared with a friend (hi, Sierra!) that I was in need of a new eye mask. She promptly recommended Bucky's 40 Blinks Sleep Masks, so when I saw them for $7 at TJ Maxx instead of the normal $14, I had to try it out.
And let me tell you, I will never go back. I am a notoriously light sleeper and this mask right here has put me sound to sleep (now if only I could drown out the footsteps from our upstairs neighbor ... gotta love creaky hardwood floors).
If you also have trouble sleeping on flights, at home, or anywhere, really, this mask blocks out ALL the light AND it's easy on the eyes. Seriously, my old one was so tight, it put pressure on my eyes, which was super uncomfortable. With Bucky, I can actually blink without crushing my eyeballs and still enjoy total darkness.
