Morning Musings
Many thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes and Charleston recommendations! It's safe to say I lived my best life and also ate my body weight in biscuits. Here's hoping my metabolism can keep up with NOLA this coming weekend!
Back-to-back travel is enough to leave anyone exhausted. But lately my fatigue has been the result of countless coffee dates, a plethora of networking events and speaking engagements.
Don't get me wrong, I love meeting new people and sharing ideas. And yes, as my friend Saya recently wrote, it's a high-class problem to have. But it can also be mentally and physically draining.

I'd long been thinking about implementing a #NoCoffeeDateNovember when I read Saya's post "How to Say No to a Nice Request" and learned of her Selfish Sabbatical. It was as if a light bulb went off and she'd given me permission to well, say no.
I'm a bona fide people-pleaser, often placing others' wants and needs above my own, and often to my detriment. I love coffee as much as the next person, but I simply don't have the time and energy to meet with everyone who asks me.
So I'm taking a break from coffee dates and the like until 2019. The holidays are quickly approaching and I want to take some quiet time to sit, reflect and plan ahead for next year. Nothing personal, strictly business. I hope you can understand!
Love,
L'Oreal
P.s. Happy Halloween! In case you don't follow me on IG, my sister and I went as Venus and Serena Williams. What are you dressing up as this year? Hit reply and let me know!

My last speaking engagement of the year is, SURPRISE, keynote for ACT-W Lite, a FREE networking event for women (and people who support women) in tech! RSVP and join me next Thursday, Nov. 8.
Plus, don't miss my I Can't: Land a New Job workshop on Jan. 9! If you don't want to end 2019 with the same role you're in today, register NOW.

My Latest Obsession

This one's been on my to-read list for some time now and I finally had a chance to dive in this weekend on my flight to Charleston. Brittney Cooper's latest, Eloquent Rage, is a must-read for Black feminists and ALL feminists alike. The University of Rutgers professor, perhaps better known as Professor Crunk on Twitter, expertly weaves personal stories with Black feminist theories and, of course, Beyoncé.
