Morning Musings
A few weeks ago, while mindlessly scrolling through social media, I noticed a friend had been named one of the top Black women in tech to follow on Twitter.
The catch is I'd been texting said friend earlier that week about a workshop I was presenting and in the midst of hyping me up, she'd made no mention of it -- nor had she shared the news on her own social media accounts at that time. So I called her out, naturally.
"Thank you!!" she texted. "I was gonna include it in my next newsletter. Girl, I was like will I be bragging? lol."
To which I immediately replied, "B*tch, you betta brag!" I also told her I sometimes use the b-word as a term of endearment for my closest friends and asked her not to take offense.

We had a good laugh, but I was so serious and, to be fair, I've been guilty of playing accolades off as well for fear of coming across as boastful. Why are we so quick to applaud our friends' accomplishments and so hesitant to toot our own horns?
I know bragging can seem unladylike, but to hell with it. In the words of Queen Bey, "I dream it. I work hard. I grind 'til I own it." So yeah, I'm going to brag. Because I work my ass off and I'm not about shrinking myself to make other people feel comfortable. Men do it all the time, so why not us ladies? Here's to more bragging and less hiding in 2019!

If you've been following me for any length of time, then you already know how much I LOVE Forever FLOTUS Michelle Obama! So I was beyond excited to write about said love for HelloGiggles in honor of her 55th birthday.

P.s. Can we agree to collectively stan Monica Ahanonu's artwork (as pictured above)? Her illustrations are epic, I tell you, EPIC!

My Latest Obsession

As of late, my to-read list has been full of professional development, memoirs and self-help books. So when a friend (hi, Heather!) recommended Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date, I was immediately intrigued.
Basically, girl meets boy in an elevator and girl falls in love with boy. A bunch of stuff happens in between, but this is the smartest, most well written romance novel I've read in a while.Â
And the chemistry between Alexa and Drew? Let's just say I'm hoping and praying this trilogy is eventually turned into a movie!
