"Minding my business is my favorite form of self-care." — Qai Qai
Morning Musings
As a perpetual people-pleaser, it's almost like the word "no" isn't in my vocabulary. I'm so quick to say "yes" to every ask, every request or demand on my time that I often forget "no" is even an option.
So last week when an editor asked me about writing an article due this past Monday, my immediate inclination was to say "yes." It's not that big of a deal, I rationed. At this point in my career, I can write 750-1,000 words in my sleep.

But, according to my husband, Jeff, I was missing the bigger point. "Are you ever not working?" he asked. As I was in the middle of drafting copy for a workshop (details below!), working on this here newsletter and responding to emails all before our weekend trip to Dallas, I thought, "maybe he has a point."
Was I seriously about to crank out an article on top of my already too long to-do list? Yes, yes I was. Because, for some reason, putting other people and their needs/wants/desires above my own has become second nature.
Maybe it's because I not-so-secretly suffer from scarcity mindset and I think if I'm not doing it, someone else will get the opportunity and/or I'll be overlooked for other opportunities? Or it could be that I've somehow conditioned myself to believe that my self worth is tied to how much I put out into the world?
Y'all, I have issues. And I'm working through them in therapy. But I, L'Oreal Thompson Payton, am a bona fide workaholic. And I don't know how not to be this way, but I'm learning. Slowly, but surely, I'm learning.
Thank you, Jeff, for pushing me. I love you.

Love,
L'Oreal

My Latest Obsession

Well, as I shared a couple of newsletters ago, I recently discovered I am a hardcore Type 3, according to the Enneagram. So many of you wrote in to share your type and also suggested podcasts where I could learn more.
But major shout-out to Anna M. for putting me on the Enneagram & Coffee Instagram account -- I am utterly obsessed (and now so are a few of my friends). Sharing is caring, so check it out and feel free to tag me on IG (@LTintheCity) to let me know your number.
