Morning Musings
First and foremost, thank you to everyone who responded to last week's newsletter with tips and hacks on how to get the vaccine. You are the village in the aforementioned subject line and I'm so grateful to each of you.
Great news: Jeff and I were able to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this past weekend thanks to the Cook County Health Department text system. It did involve driving about 45 minutes southwest to Tinley Park (still not entirely sure where that is), but it was worth it.
It was a bit surreal walking in to the vaccine site. We'd waited so long and it was finally happening! Because of the heavy presence of the Illinois National Guard, it felt a little bit like being in Independence Day or one of those end-of-world movies. But everything was methodical and went off without a hitch, because y'all know how much I love structure!
We were feeling fine post-vaccine, so much so that we went shopping for new plant babies (RIP to their predecessors) and hosted my sister's virtual birthday party later that evening.
And then the chills set in, so much so that we ended up wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants AND socks to bed. The following day is when the fatigue hit us and we spent much of the day on the sofa with bouts of nausea. Now, a couple of days later we're feeling back to normal minus the soreness at the injection site.
I knew about people feeling side effects after the second dose, but for some reason hadn't accounted for the same with our second dose, which resulted in a last-minute grocery run for ramen, chicken noodle soup, ginger ale and Gatorade on Jeff's part (thank you!).
All this to say, take care of yourself friends, don't be afraid to use those Sick Days and stock up on all your home remedies BEFORE your appointment (this includes toast, if you're my bestie Marissa and/or anyone in her family). And if you're still looking for a vaccine in the Chicagloand area, might I suggest the following resources:
COVID-19 Vaccine Signup Links (Chicagoland area)
VaxxMax.com (national vaccine availability at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.)
ZocDoc.com/vaccine (to find an appointment near you)
Walgreens (hack: call 800-925-4733 instead of booking online; another hack from subscriber Marissa D. "There’s also the option to call your local Walgreen’s pharmacy or walk in around 4:30/5pm any weekday and see if they have leftover doses.")
And if you're all #VaxxedUp and know someone who isn't, please do feel free to pass this on. After all, sharing is caring.
Love,
L'Oreal
P.s. I've read about the latest J&J news and am still feeling good so far (knock on wood)!

My Latest Obsession
I've been reading Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert (one of my fave romance authors) simply because I do not want the Brown Sisters trilogy to end. Her books have singlehandedly gotten me through quarantine (okay, along with therapy, Peloton and family/friend Zooms). Learn more about British author in my interview for Shondaland.
