"Your exhaustion is your mind, body, and soul speaking to you. Please listen and rest." — Lalah Delia
Morning Musings
When I made the decision to share our infertility journey (with Jeff's support and encouragement), I had no idea it would become such a huge part of my story or that I would become something of an infertility advocate. Last year's Infertility Awareness Week came and went without much fanfare on my end.
This year is a drastically different story — two stories, two speaking engagements and an interview with a popular morning TV show. I'm not complaining. I'm grateful for the opportunities to use my voice and my platform to shed light on such an important issue and increase awareness around the fact that yes, infertility also impacts Black people, particularly young Black women.
According to Resolve, the National Infertility Association, "1 in 8 couples have trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy." But if you do a Google image search for "infertility," the results are overwhelmingly white.
I'm also tired. Granted, this exhaustion is due in large part to living through a global pandemic, juggling competing priorities and being constantly subjected to the blatant disregard for Black and brown lives.
And constantly being "on" can start to take a toll. I realize this is my own doing and I stand by the fact that if I'm able to help at least one person feel less alone, then sharing our story will have been worth it. That being said, I've got to do a better job at not overdoing it.
I share all this to say if I owe you a call, text, email, DM, etc., please give me some grace. I'll get back to you once I've had a chance to rest and refill my cup. I encourage you to take some time to pour into yourself as well. We can all use an extra dose of TLC these days (the band, the TV network, or the sentiment — whatever floats your boat. This is a no judgment zone).
Love,
L'Oreal

In my first for Publisher's Weekly, I had the pleasure of interviewing award-winning poet Morgan Parker. And in my latest for Reebok, I interviewed Octavia Raheem, one of my favorite yoga instructors, about the importance of rest.

My Latest Obsession
Is there anything Rihanna can't do? The answer is "no," by the way. Her Pro Filt'r foundation is my fave (420, btw), but sometimes you don't feel like putting on a full face. Or you just want a little something for that important Zoom call. Enter Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint. A couple of drops will do ya, or if you need a bit more it's totally buildable. Safe to say I'm a fan.
