"Black women, we are the culture, we been the culture, and in the future, we still gone be the culture." — Megan Thee Stallion
Morning Musings
Ever since I heard the first chords of "...Baby One More Time" on a Wal-Mart parking lot after an evening screening of The Rugrats Movie, I've been a fan. Something about that Louisiana drawl just drew me in and I haven't looked back.
Like a whole generation of Black girls, I stan Miss Britney Jean Spears. She was my Beyoncé before Beyoncé was my Beyoncé (same for Brandy). I've been to Britney's concerts; listened to her CDs on repeat; and even dressed as her for Halloween once upon time (complete with a Britney-branded headset mic. Yes, I'm serious). So yea, I go hard for Britney.
Which is why it broke my heart to hear her testimony at last week's hearing regarding her conservatorship. As one Twitter user pointed out, there was an audible difference between the baby-voiced Britney we see and hear on Instagram and the one who was fighting for her life and her freedom last week. This Britney was fed up and rightfully so.
There were many jaw-dropping moments throughout the 23-minute statement, but perhaps most jarring to me were the allegations that her team wouldn't allow her to get her IUD removed so she can have a baby with her boyfriend. This is a reproductive justice issue and, as writer Nylah Burton so eloquenty points out, this is also a disability rights.
It's time the powers that be #FreeBritney once and for all.

In my latest for ZORA, I got to interview one of my favorite mentors-in-my-head, entrepreneur, podcaster and author Elayne Fluker. I first "met" Elayne four years ago when I interviewed her for Her Agenda and I became a big fan of her podcast, Support is Sexy. So naturally I had to interview her about her new book, Get Over "I Got It."

My Latest Obsession
I shared a Reel about Megababe on Instagram and several of you had questions, so I thought I'd feature it here. While walking to post-brunch ice cream, ya girl got a severe case of thigh rub and my friend Marissa saved me with Megababe's Thigh Rescue. Yes, it works. Yes, I ordered some for myself that evening. No, I will not leave the house without it.
