#WednesdayWisdom
"Don’t dig up in doubt what you planted in faith. Be patient enough to see it through." — Kelly Rowland
Morning Musings
We've officially been in our new home for a week now and I'm still feeling all the feels. Chief among them is overwhelm. There are still boxes everywhere and Violet starts daycare next week (I may or may not have cried when we went to pick up her enrollment packet ... if anyone has tips on emotionally preparing to send your baby to daycare, I'm all ears).
I've also been filled with panic, dread, and a LOT of second-guessing myself and our capabilities as new parents on our own for the first time. There also may or may not have been tears upon realization of this when we moved in, a delayed reaction from bringing her home from the hospital nearly six months ago I suppose.
What if everyone was right? What if it is better to be closer to family when raising your own family? What if a single-family home with an attached garage is better than a top-floor condo in a vintage walk-up (car seats and strollers are HEAVY, y'all!). What if? What if? What if?
I was doomscrolling Twitter when I saw today's #WednesdayWisdom courtesy of none other than the fabulous Kelly Rowland (is it just me, or is she getting finer with age?!). And her words washed over me like a balm.
I am confident we made the right move, both literally and figuratively. And I desperately miss our Chicago old neighborhood, or perhaps more than that I miss our old lifestyle? All of this can be true.
As my friend and former roommate Marissa so lovingly reminded me, historical data shows that I am not the best with moves, or change in general. I practically cried myself to sleep when I first moved to Chicago and look at me now, back with a baby!
Jeff reassures me that we'll make this place our home, and I know we will since he's Mr. HGTV and all. But it will take time. I have to give myself time, extend myself grace and, before we know it, we'll have made this house--the place where Violet will take her first steps and celebrate her first birthday among other milestones--our home. And I love that for her and for us.
Love,
L'Oreal

Fun fact: when my editor commissioned me to write about Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson's comments on motherhood and ambition for Well + Good I was rocking Violet to sleep while checking and responding to emails. Life imitating art, amirite?! Read more of my thoughts here.
I also had the honor of sharing our infertility and parenting journey with the good folks at Expectful. Download the app and check them out under Shared Stories.
