Morning Musings
After one year of full-time freelancing, I've started a new role as a health and wellness reporter for Fortune magazine. I certainly did not have writing for a business publication on my 2022 Bingo card, but we're one week in and I'm happy to say: so far, so good.
As I alluded to in an earlier newsletter, I've been interviewing for a full-time staff role since the beginning of the year. It became clear to me that if we were going to move back to Chicago and comfortably afford a mortgage and daycare (which is pretty much another mortgage), I'd have to join the ranks of working 9-5 again.
It certainly wasn't an easy decision. I already miss the freedom and flexibility; however, in this season of my life and career I crave the stability even more (hello, biweekly direct deposit and benefits!).
There is a part of me that feels a little bit like a failure. Like maybe if I were one of those notorious six-figure freelancers I could continue to write on my own terms. But there's no shame in pivoting and doing what's best for you and your family.
More next week, but for now, join me in celebrating the new gig!
Love,

This week's category is motherhood. I wrote about how daycare has made me a better mom for Bobbie's blog Milk Drunk (don't you just love that name?) and I talked all things momfluencer culture with author Sara Peterson in her newsletter, In Pursuit of Clean Countertops. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

My Latest Obsession

Jeff and I just finished season 1 of P Valley and I'm obsessed! Sure, you could say it's about a strip club in a small town, but at the center of the series is female friendship, which we all know I'm a sucker for. The intricate dance moves don't hurt either and remind me of my pole fitness competition days of yesteryear. I can't wait to catch up to season 2!
