"It’s if it don’t align, that’s fine, season." ~ @LalahDelia
Morning Musings
This past Monday I giddily watched a Merry Liddle Christmas movie marathon on Lifetime. Yes, it was Halloween. No, I didn’t care.
In years past, I have been a Christmas seasons traditionalist—only playing that Mariah Carey song and decorating my tree the day after Thanksgiving. I even wrote a whole column about it at my first reporter job back in 2008. That was then. This is now.
That was before an ongoing global pandemic (and now threats of a tripledemic) changed our lives as we know it. Why wait on arbitrary rules and a Gregorian calendar to decide when you celebrate your favorite holidays?
Don’t get me wrong, I still love Thanksgiving (perhaps even a little more than Christmas if I’m being totally honest—I get all the perks: good food and good people without the stress of trying to find the elusive Perfect Gift).
But I’m also no longer waiting for Black Friday to watch cheesy Hallmark movies; listen to Christmas songs and put up our decorations. Because these things bring me joy. And life is too short to deprive yourself of some well-earned joy, especially these days when it can be hard to come by in the first place.
What brings you joy? Hit reply to let me know and then go do that. Whatever it is, for at least five minutes. Because you deserve it and in the words of The Weeknd, girl, you earned it.
Love,
L'Oreal

As much as I love Renaissance, sometimes I need to put on some lofi beats in order to concentrate and get some writing done, which is where Spotify's Fall Lofi 2022 Autumn Chill playlist comes in. Light a candle and grab your favorite pumpkin- or apple-flavored drink for some serious fall vibes.
