Morning Musings
When I was six years old, my dad encouraged me to add a book I’d written about dinosaurs in outer space to the list of books I’d read for the library’s summer reading challenge. The book, aptly titled Dinosaurs in Outer Space, was the first one I’d ever written, but my kid logic reasoned that it wasn’t a real book. I wasn’t a real author.
“If you wrote it, then you read it,” my dad stated and, well, I couldn’t really argue that.
Fast forward 30 years later and, not only did I share that story in my debut book, Stop Waiting for Perfect, but I got to share it in front of my family, friends and fellow library patrons at my hometown library. Talk about a full-circle moment.
My heart is bursting with gratitude and, as I’m writing this, we’re just two hours removed from my book event at the Abingdon branch of the Harford County Public Library so I’m very much still processing (and exhausted, thus the short newsletter today).
But I remember telling my publicist (hi, Jennifer!) how important it was to me to have a book event in Maryland. New York and Chicago are great, but Maryland is home. Getting to share this moment with the people who’ve literally supported me from the beginning is special beyond words.
So, for now, thank you. And Baltimore, you’re up next! I’m really excited to be in conversation with Lisa Snowden, editor-in-chief of Baltimore Beat, tonight at Red Emma’s. If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll join us!
P.s. I’m going to be on Baltimore WJZ this morning at 9 a.m. Tune in if you can and I’ll be sure to share the clip afterward!
Stop Waiting for Perfect is Out Now!
See You on (Book) Tour!
TONIGHT (Wednesday, Sept. 6): Red Emma’s in conversation with Lisa Snowden (Baltimore, MD)
