Love your authentic and honest sharing! Re doctor recommendations, I just started working with Shelby Mitchell, a Black midwife at North Shore Associates OBGYN in Wilmette, she seems really great and so does the practice so it may be worth checking them out!
Love you, friend. Thank you for sharing so openly about this. You are amazing and I so admire the way you deeply tune in and listen to your gut even when it isn’t easy!
So incredibly relatable! My weight has always been an uphill battle and just now I am starting to accept myself for where I’m at and focus on healing my relationship to movement. It’s tough out here with weight loss drugs and doctors who think that thinness is the end all be all. Had to break up with a doctor who offered me weight loss surgery and ozempic when I went to her citing my weigh gain as a symptom, not a problem. Saw a new doc and it turns out my fatigue and more can be ascribed to Hashimito’s. It’s crazy how much we have to advocate for ourselves.
Not in Evanston, but I see the midwives through Northwestern at their downtown location. I specifically see Ariel Derringer for OB stuff and I love her! She’s very holistic and encouraged me to advocate for myself on thyroid stuff with a new PCP. I hope you find someone who offers more supportive care ❤️ it’s rough out there
Ugh, I'm so sorry that happened to you as well AND I'm proud of you for advocating for yourself (and so glad you finally got actual answers). Thank you so much for the recs! Also, highly recommend Anna Maltby's newsletter How to Move for non-diety/healthy relationship to movement reads & workouts: https://howtomove.substack.com/
We are kindred spirits! I too have a bulky uterus (endometriosis/adenomyosis) and the medications, hormones, and IVF weight yo-yo is too real! If you know, you know. Thank you for writing about this not often discussed topic!
Whether you join or not or spread the word or not, I just wanted to share my Bodylove Poetry Workshop with you. The struggle to love each part of our body, release old ancestral stories, and exploring what is means and how it feels to be in your body now is real! I have had two abortions, one miscarriage, two home births and breast fed and co-slept for so long my body is still recovering. But it is where I live on this planet. And what grounds me here. Mad love to you and your journey! https://www.coriefeiner.com/bodylove
