Friend, you are a brave and strong soul! Transitions are hard, and you are tough! Billions of people have taken the easier route and not bet on themselves - there isn't a how-to book for this and "figuring it out" is a major rollercoaster. You are amazing! And I hope that perfume finds its way to your stocking!!
As moms, we face this very type of challenge daily. Baby needs shoes, I'll hold off on getting this thing or doing this thing for ME. For me, it's a slippery slope to denying my needs altogether. Thankfully, I have a hubby who is very intuitive and thoughtful and will literally argue with me until I take care of my needs (sometimes takes a few pushes...). Balance is tough and oftentimes can feel like the scale is constantly weighted in one direction with no sign of relief. Then... Relief comes, if even just for a little, and you let (some) of the stress go and keep reaching towards the grand prize. I *totally* feel you on this.(and I have a steady paycheck!)
That whole "it takes a village" thing is really real!! Virtual or in person. Doesn't matter how the tribe is formed, just that the tribe is there for each other when needed!
